The Grand International Bilingual Mushaira

LANGUAGE OF MY HEART: Grand International Bilingual Mushaira

The Grand International Bilingual Mushaira (International Bilingual Poetry Festival), hosted by ILMUK, MCRC, VVUK, and IUCL, was a remarkable event held in Blackburn, showcasing the poetic talents of both Indian and UK-based poets.

This cultural gathering attracted over 100 attendees, including prominent figures such as the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen, Councillor Brian Taylor, and the Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, Councillor Phil Riley. Community leaders and individuals from various backgrounds also joined in to celebrate the rich literary traditions.

The event was designed to inspire young men and women, encouraging their involvement in creative writing and performing arts while strengthening their connection to South Asian languages and heritage.

Led with eloquence by Dr. A. K. Shakoor, MBE, and expertly coordinated by Imtiaz Patel Varediawala, this bilingual poetry festival not only preserves South Asian literature but also fosters community cohesion, building bridges between diverse groups through art and expression.
