Health Awareness
Health Awareness
Since 2007, we have been delivering health awareness initiatives, with a focus on mental health in South Asian communities. Our experience, especially through three recent projects funded by GMCVO, has shown that when engaging with South Asian participants, factors like culture, gender, and language play a critical role in raising mental health awareness. Feedback and case studies consistently underline the importance of culturally tailored approaches.
In this new project, we aim to work with groups we haven’t collaborated with before, placing a stronger emphasis on participant involvement. As individuals share their work, such as social media posters promoting healthy habits, they become more engaged and motivated. By encouraging others, they also reflect on their own behavior—creating a ripple effect where good practices like regular exercise and social engagement are shared and adopted.
Our journey has been a collective learning experience about improving well-being, and this knowledge can benefit smaller or community organizations. Feedback from our previous project emphasized the need for interactive communication around the Five Ways to Wellbeing. This project now provides participants with the chance to showcase their talents and help us identify community strengths.
In our last two projects, participants not only felt more confident discussing mental health but also gained increased awareness of mental health indicators and improved their ability to respond to mental health challenges.
The project will be completed in 2024, and we look forward to building on the positive impacts we’ve seen so far.
