My Memories Project

The “My Memories” project, launched in September 2024 by the Multicultural Resource Centre, aims to provide critical support for people living with dementia, their carers, and families in Rochdale. In partnership with mainstream statutory and voluntary sector providers, the project seeks to build their knowledge and capacity to engage more effectively with target communities.

A key feature of this initiative is the creation of a Dementia Hub at a local community centre. This Hub was built on the foundation of an older people’s group, which was established with funding from the Morrison Foundation in 2023. The Dementia Hub serves as a space where individuals with dementia and their carers can access tailored support.

A dedicated Dementia Session Worker leads the effort, offering 2 hours of weekly support for at least 12 months. Each participant undergoes a thorough needs assessment, including questionnaires to ensure the development of personalized support packages. These packages are designed to address the specific requirements of each individual and their family, ensuring that they receive the most appropriate care.

The project’s holistic approach provides both practical and emotional support, fostering a more inclusive and understanding environment for families affected by dementia in the Rochdale community.
