Get Healthier Together
Get Healthier Together: A South Asian Family Initiative
In January 2023, the Multicultural Resource Centre launched the ‘Get Healthier Together’ project, recognizing that health promotion must be at the heart of community well-being—a crucial lesson learned during the pandemic. In collaboration with Action Together, Pakeeza Women Group Rochdale, and Deeplish Community Centre, the project aimed to promote healthier lifestyles by showcasing the benefits of nutritious South Asian cuisine.
The initiative engaged numerous South Asian families, offering hands-on opportunities to explore healthy eating habits rooted in their cultural traditions. Participants were invited to enjoy cooking demonstrations, food-sharing activities, and wellness discussions led by community health advocates and nutrition experts. The sessions not only focused on health but also celebrated the richness and diversity of South Asian cuisine, blending traditional flavors with modern health-conscious practices.
The event saw a great turnout and active involvement from families, resulting in a positive community atmosphere of shared learning and mutual support. This initiative has helped spark important conversations around diet and well-being, encouraging lasting changes in health awareness among all participants.
