Language of My Heart
Language of My Heart
Our literary heritage is the lifeblood of our cultural identity, enriching our community with traditions that span continents and generations. The Language of My Heart project seeks to celebrate the profound literary contributions of the British Gujarati and Memon communities in Greater Manchester, which have flourished over the past fifty years. These communities have brought with them a vibrant literary tradition from India, Pakistan, and Africa, rooted in stories, poetry, and philosophical writings passed down through generations.
This initiative aims to preserve and showcase this invaluable legacy through the creation of a bilingual (Gujarati-English) book and a series of exhibition panels. These works will not only document our shared history but also highlight the enduring power of language and literature in connecting us to our heritage.
The project will explore how the written word has played a central role in maintaining our cultural ties and how it continues to shape our identity today. Through community collaboration and bilingual storytelling, Language of My Heart will reflect the beauty, diversity, and depth of our literary roots, making them accessible to both younger generations and the wider public.
